Dean's Message

Dear Prospective Graduate Student:

I am delighted that you are considering Tufts University's Graduate School of Arts and Sciences (GSAS) as the place to continue your education. Our graduate programs are distinguished by their innovative courses, close student-faculty interactions and mentoring opportunities, and by the exciting collaborations that occur between disciplines and schools at Tufts.

Graduate school is a place of extraordinary opportunities and growth. It is the place where you move from being a student to a researcher and teacher. You begin your graduate program by asking questions and you will leave with answers. Graduate school is where your professors become your colleagues and your co-authors. It is an exciting time of your life and I welcome you to graduate school with great enthusiasm.

Each one of our 1,200 arts and sciences graduate students is carefully chosen, with close attention paid to how their goals, interests, and preparation fit with what we have to offer. If you are accepted, you can be assured that you belong here and that you won't be lost in the shuffle. Our relatively small size encourages collegial faculty-student relationships and small classes.

Successful collaboration across disciplines is a distinctive feature throughout Tufts University's six schools and three campuses. It also fosters a culture that encourages interdisciplinary research and programs.

I invite you to explore this website, visit our campus, and talk with our faculty and students. And, whether or not Tufts is the right fit for you, I wish you success and fulfillment in this next step in your education and in your life.
