Mathematics

Degrees Offered: M.A., M.S., Ph.D.
http://www.tufts.edu/as/math/grad.html
617-627-3234

The graduate program in mathematics offers a demanding but congenial environment, with small classes and much individual attention.

Research areas represented in the department include algebraic geometry, dynamical systems, geometric group theory, integral geometry, Lie groups, topology, probability, fluid dynamics, kinetic theory, mathematical neuroscience, numerical analysis and numerical linear algebra, and tomography.

Doctoral graduates hold faculty positions at various universities, as well as jobs in financial services, statistical research, medical technology, aerospace, and software.

Master's students may complete the degree with or without a thesis, and a master's program in applied mathematics is also offered.

Doctoral students must pass four oral qualifying exams, including one in their chosen field, and complete a thesis.
