Dedicated to the study of the history, literature, archaeology, and cultural legacies of Greece, Rome, and the ancient Mediterranean and Europe, the department offers master's programs in the classics and in classical archaeology.

The Master of Arts program in classics is particularly suited to those who wish to strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the ancient languages and the history and culture of the Ancient World, and also hone their teaching skills in preparation either for a doctoral program or for a secondary school teaching career.

The Master of Arts program in classical archaeology is dedicated to training students in classical archaeology and its contribution to our knowledge and understanding of the material culture, arts, and history of the Mediterranean world. Course offerings also provide exposure to current methodological issues, techniques, and problems of field archaeology. This program is ideally suited for students interested in preparing for an archaeology doctoral program or curatorial work in ancient art.
