For Minority Students/Students from Underrepresented GroupsAmerican Association of Health Plans (AAHP): Minority Management Development Program: Annual program to prepare minority individuals for middle management positions in managed care. Minority individuals who possess a baccalaureate or master's degree in health care administration, business or other related field and who have worked in a health care entity for at least one year should apply. Additionally, minority individuals who possess an associate's or RN license and three years or more of supervisory experience in health care are also encouraged to apply. American Indian Graduate Center: Must be: enrolled member of a U.S. federally recognized American Indian tribe or Alaskan Native Group, or possess one fourth degree (federally recognized) Indian blood and pursuing a master's or doctorate degree as a full-time graduate student at an accredited graduate school in the United States. American Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES): A.T. Anderson Memorial Scholarship: Must be at least 1/4 American Indian/Alaskan Native or recognized as a member by tribe. Must be a full-time graduate student taking at least 9 hours per semester and have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher. Must be AISES member. Fields of study include Engineering, science, mathematics, physical science, medicine, or natural resources. American Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES): U.S Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Tribal Lands Environmental Science Scholarship: Annual scholarship to assist students in environmental sciences in meeting the financial demands of attending college or grad school, and to provide summer work experiences at the EPA or on tribal lands. Fields of study include biochemistry, biology, chemical engineering, chemistry, entomology, environmental economics, environmental science, hydrology, and related environmental disciplines. American Political Science Association Minority Fellows Program: Designed primarily for minority students entering a doctoral program in political science for the first time. The applicant must be in his/her senior year at the college or university level applying to a doctoral program in political science, or currently enrolled in a Master's program and applying to a doctoral program. APA Minority Fellowship Program: The MFP's objective is to increase the knowledge of issues related to ethnic minority mental health and to improve the quality of mental health treatment delivered to ethnic minority populations. We do this by providing financial support and professional guidance to individuals pursuing doctoral degrees in psychology. Congressional Black Caucus Foundation Fellows Program: Open to individuals who possess a demonstrated interest in the legislative policy-making process and who show evidence of an understanding of and commitment to Black political empowerment. Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute: Opportunity to gain hands-on experience at the federal level in the public policy area of their choice through the General Public Policy Fellowship. All aspects of public policy are considered such as: issues affecting children and families, international affairs, economic development, education, housing, local government, etc. CHCI also aims to develop leaders in the areas of public health administration (Edward Royal Public Health Fellowship), telecommunications policy (Telecommunications Policy Fellowship) and corporate-public interest (Corporate Fellowship). Crawford, Frances Marvin American Indian Scholarship: Candidates for this scholarship must be enrolled full time at a college or university and must be Native American. DAR American Indian Scholarship: Intended to help Native American students of any age, any tribe, in any state striving to get an education. All awards are judged based on financial need and academic achievement. This scholarship is applicable to programs of vocational training or college/university at the undergraduate or graduate level. Graduate students are eligible; however, undergraduate students are given preference. Ford Foundation: Dissertation Fellowships for Minorities: To increase the presence of underrepresented minorities on the nation's college and university faculties, to enhance diversity on campuses, and to address the persisting effects of past discrimination, the Ford Foundation offers predoctoral fellowships to Ph.D. and Sc.D. students who are U.S. citizens from one of the following minority groups: Native American Indian, Alaskan Native (Eskimo or Aleut), Black/African American, Mexican American/Chicano, Native Pacific Islander (Polynesian or Micronesian), and Puerto Rican. Must have completed all degree requirements except the writing and defense of the dissertation, including coursework, examinations, language requirements, etc. Gates Millennium Scholars: Established to provide outstanding African American, American Indian/Alaska Natives, Asian Pacific Islander Americans, and Hispanic American students with an opportunity to complete an undergraduate college education, in all discipline areas and a graduate education for those students pursuing studies in mathematics, science, engineering, education, or library science. The goal of GMS is to promote academic excellence and to provide an opportunity for thousands of outstanding students with significant financial need to reach their fullest potential. Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD): Invites applications for its dissertation fellowship program. Two awards will be given to support the study of media and representation as it relates to lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people. The program solicits proposals for original, creative, and rigorous research on the cultural, institutional, economic, social, and political dimensions of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender representations, and the ways in which such representations are generated, interpreted, mobilized, and contested in a variety of genres and contexts, including historical and cross-cultural work. Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF) and Pfizer, Inc. Graduate Fellowship:: Annual awards to provide partial financial support to Hispanic students in graduate programs. Includes a paid internship at Pfizer's N.Y.C. headquarters for the summer following the year of academic support. Fields of study include: biostatistics, economics, medicine, business administration, electrical engineering, public health, computer engineering, epidemiology, computer information systems, and health administration. King Faisal Foundation: Sponsors a scholarship program intended to offer opportunities to outstanding Muslim graduates in the Islamic World to complete their higher education in the most prestigious universities of the world. Korean American Scholarship Fund: Must be currently enrolled in a full-time undergraduate or graduate program is qualified to apply. Recipient is selected on the basis of financial need, academic achievement, school activities, and community services. NAACP Education Department Agnes Jones Jackson Scholarship: Must have been a member of the NAACP for at least one year. Based on GPA and academic achievement. NAACP Roy Wilkins Scholarship: Must be of a minority background. Based on GPA, leadership qualities, NAACP activities, and financial need. National Institutes of Health Individual Predoctoral Fellowships for Minority Students: The National Research Service Award Predoctoral Fellowship for Minority Students will provide up to five years of support for research training leading to the Ph.D. or equivalent research degree; the combined M.D./Ph.D. degree; or other combined professional degree and research doctoral degree in the biomedical, behavioral sciences, or health services research. These fellowships are designed to enhance the racial and ethnic diversity of the biomedical, behavioral, and health services research labor force in the United States. Accordingly, academic institutions are encouraged to identify and recruit students from under-represented racial and ethnic groups who can apply for this fellowship. Support is NOT available for individuals enrolled in medical or other professional schools UNLESS they are also enrolled in a combined professional doctorate/Ph.D. degree program in biomedical, behavioral, or health services research. NEBHE Doctoral Scholars Program for Underrepresented U.S. Citizen Minorities (African-American, Latino/a, and Native American) in Science, Mathematics, and Engineering Fields: Through participation in the Science Network, a national Institute on Teaching and Mentoring and scheduled meetings, doctoral scholars are supported in their journey to complete the graduate degree. Students wishing to begin earn a doctorate in Science, Mathematics, or Engineering, may be eligible for long-term financial aid, academic support, comprehensive program services, and professional development. This New England program is part of the national Compact for Faculty Diversity. NOBCChE Annual Scholastic Fellowship for Minority Graduate Students: Annual award to fund outstanding African-American Ph.D. students who have made significant contributions to science and/or engineering research. Fields of study include Chemistry, chemical engineering, or life sciences. Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education: Opportunities to participate in cooperative linkages between Oak Ridge National Laboratory and universities with programs that lead to degrees or degree options in materials science and related disciplines; provides fellowships for students to complete master's level degree, including an off-campus research appointment at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. Discipline(s): materials science, materials engineering, metallurgical engineering, ceramic engineering Eligibility: African American or Native American graduating seniors and graduate students who have not completed their first year. Sloan, Alfred P. Foundation: Fellowships for faculty in chemistry, computer science, economics, mathematics, neuroscience, and physics; postdoctoral fellowships for career transitions into computational molecular biology from physics, mathematics, computer science, chemistry, and related fields; Sloan Industry Center Fellowships, Education and Careers in Science and Technology; Ph.D.'s for underrepresented minorities fellowships also available. Smithsonian Institution Minority Internships: Annual program to provide minority interns opportunities to participate in supervised ongoing research or museum-related activities. Smithsonian Latino Studies Fellowship Program: Provides opportunities to US Latino/a predoctoral students and postdoctoral and senior scholars to pursue research topics that relate to Latino art, culture, and history. Interdisciplinary subjects are encouraged and can be undertaken at more than one of the Smithsonian museums and/or research units, and advised by one or more of the Smithsonian research staff members. Smithsonian Native American Community Scholar's Awards: Offers awards to Native Americans who are formally or informally related to a Native American community to undertake individually designed research projects related to Native American topics and using Native American resources at the Smithsonian. Smithsonian Native American Visiting Student Awards: Appointments are available for currently enrolled advanced Native American graduate students who are formally or informally related to a Native American community. Visiting Students pursue independent research in association with Smithsonian staff. United Negro College Fund: A variety of scholarships available. Vouras, Paul Fund: Supports doctoral dissertation research in geography. Preference is given to minority student applications. Xerox Technical Minority Scholarship Program: Annual award to fund graduate students of ethnic minorities who are enrolled in one of the technical sciences or engineering disciplines. Fields of study include: Chemistry; chemical, civil, computer, electrical, imaging, mechanical, optical, and software engineering; information management; physics; and materials science. |
